Last week I heard about this book and I immediately bought it. Even being a lazy reader (even though I enjoy reading, I’ll confess to being lazy), I finished “It Will Be Exhilarating” in less than a week. And you know what? It is exhilarating.
Studio Neat was created two years ago by Tom and Dan when they launched a really successful project on Kickstarter – the Glif, a tripod mount for iPhone 4 and 4S. Six months later, they launched their second project, the Cosmonaut, a stylus for touch screens. They’ve been doing business ever since.
This new book talks about their experience with Kickstarter, but it goes further, discussing about startups in general and this new capitalism, where the middleman is increasingly vanishing, creating a new space for people to launch their own products and sell them themselves. It seems to be a regression, back to the middle ages, but it’s actually a big step into a new capitalism, when people will buy stuff directly from the creators through the Internet.
This subject fascinates me and brings me back to my Geography studies. You can already see this new capitalism with bands such as Pomplamoose: no record label, no nothing, they create songs, edit them and sell them online. Brilliant!
After reading ”It Will Be Exhilarating” you really feel you wanna create something yourself. It’s still an excellent guide about how to launch projects on Kickstarter. Highly recommended!
